UQAAS Alumni Function at One 15 Marina, 28th October 2006

Networking is in my blood, I have been regularly attending alumni functions and gatherings especially my present involvement with the Dragon Chapter and Dragon Scout Group.

Recently, one of my alumni associations, University of Queensland Alumni Association of Singapore, organised a marvellous and beautiful event (networking, BBQ, meet old friends, make new friends etc etc) at One Degree 15 Marina at the Sentosa Cove. It is an upcoming private residential estate with the clubhouse as part of its attractions and facilities. I look foward to the day whereby I would be a member of the clubhouse (must work extremely very hard).

Eric (my fellow Dragon Scout) was also from the same university as me, although we were in different courses. He asked me to help with the photography for this event and I obliged without hesitation.

Strolling around to admire the marina, sea, clubhouse and future developments, it was a wonderful event to meet up with old friends and make new friends. The food was great and a steady flow of wine. It would not be possible without the leadership and assistance of the UQAAS President Frankie Tan, to hold the alumni event at such a wonderful and exclusive address.

Just some beautiful memories in our mind ........

Tink Cards

Tink Cards is a creative and artistic business opened by my old friend (another fellow Dragon Scout) Mon and his partner Emily.

They specialise in cards for all occasions and I really like their artwork. They are really good in wedding related necessities and accessories (beautiful wedding cards). Their range of photo albums available really make my search for photo albums easy. They are now well known in our local bridal or marriage forums for their distinctive and creative wedding arts.

Do drop by their (cosy & relaxing) place and take a look at their wonderful pieces of art and cards.

Combined Dragon Scout Group & Chapter Mid Autumn Festival Celebrations at GESSOSA - 6 October 2006

2006 Mid Autumn Festival

Year 2006 Mid Autumn Festival celebraions were lots of fun and laughter. The Dragon Chapter Committee decided to organise this event for Chapter members and we managed to use Gan Eng Seng School Old Students Association Room for this wonderful event. It was a small turnout from the old boys side but we are getting more people knowing about the activities we are planning and I urge all old boys to participate in the upcoming events and activities.

There were a small participation from the Dragon Scout Group, but nevertheless, it gave us the opportunity to interact with our juniors and vice versa. I came early and helped to decorate up the place with lanterns, while the juniors prepared candles, drinks, mooncakes, fireworks sticks.

While the juniors were having fun with their lanterns, Hongliang was issuing lanterns to them and having their great time taking photos. The old boys were streaming in and preparing chinese tea and displaying the various kinds of mooncakes for the event celebration. The Chapter folks also went out and helped to light up the fireworks sticks pasted on the floor around the clubhouse to light up the sparkling word of GESS. So much fun , bonding us young and old together.

Coming back into the clubhouse, we settled down drinking tea and eating mooncakes, chatting and having lots of laughter. Soon, we started playing games and the juniors tested the seniors. I was probably the only senior that couldn't really guess the mind playing games !! Thereafter, the Chapter also led some games before the juniors started another set of games.

As much as I don't like to admit it, there is (definitely) a bit of generation gap (that is inevitable). However, it is the spirit, camaraderie, teachings, fun, rich history of the Dragon Scout Group that makes the old and young come together in unity as a integral member of the Dragon Scout Group, signifies in today's Mid Autumn Festival Celebrations. Thank you all who make this evening a wonderful time of celebration and fun for all !

Moving on, Teck Chong and Wei Liang organised games for the whole bunch of us. It was different from the first few games and at the end of the 3rd round, the "losers" had to do some forfeits. They were a great sporting bunch and enacted "Chang Er Peng Yue" by the other spectators request.

Soon, it was time to pack up and return home for rest and recovery. Everybody helped to clean and tidy up the clubhouse. Looking back at the past 4 hours, I believed everybody had lots of fun and laughter in today's simple yet meaningful gathering and event.

Once again, thank you all for such an enjoyable event today !

Night Photoshoot Therapy 30th September 2006

A night of photoshoot using my telephoto 70-200mm F4 L USM lense and my wide angle 17-40 F4 L USM lense, doing a walkabout around Gateway West and Parkview Square. It also served as a form of therapy from the anger, frustrations, stress, fatigue etc etc and bringing myself back on track to my goals and objectives in life and career.

Hope you folks like the pictures (real test of my telephoto lense) ......

After a simple walkabout, went with Ray to Suntec & Marina Square for coffee and window shopping (Ray & me have very differing views on window shopping).

Sigma Flash EF 500 DG Super - Introduction & Test Shots

The Sigma Flash was a new addition to my photography arsenal. I would like to thank my Dad for helping to contribute with the recent aquisitions of photography hardware.

It was a really good flash for my EOS 300D and a great value for money third party camera accessories. I bought my flash from The Camera Workshop and Daniel was really helpful in giving me a crash course on utilising the flash properly.

Once I bought it, it was used for my company's Morphosis Public Seminar, M4-06. It was put to the test for my colleagues ROM function on 25th September 2006, Monday and I was very happy with my new flash accessory.

Well, let me show the trial shots using my Sigma Flash taken at The Camera Workshop..

Directions ? Inspirations ? Crossroads ? Where am I heading ?

Life till date was very hectic and full of ups and downs.

I am honoured to be involved with different photoshoot opportunities that allows me to present myself as a photojournalist. Looking ahead, there could be more projects coming up and there were a lot more photography activities than those seen here. Only my good old mates would knew about it (as it is Private and Confidential and had to be hidden away).

When I am writing this posting, I was deciding to do something different. In all my photoshoots, there were some interesting pictures that I took (that was meant to be abstract or different), photographs that would convey a message, my thoughts, my journalism skills etc etc across to my readers. If it works, please do leave a comment, if it doesn't work for you, please do leave a comment too !

Just a Directions Signboard ?

Folks, in life, don't we always seem to be looking for directions ? Do we really know what we actually want to achieve or desire ? Are we always at crossroads with many different routes of advancement ? Or are we just another tourist looking for directions to another tourism spot ?

In the darkness, in a bright sunny day, on top of a park, in the middle of a desert. The direction signboard might be there, in all shapes and sizes. Does it invokes something inside you to think about your directions in life, work, desires, goals etc etc ?

Everyone of us has goals in our life , let us all work towards what we wanted to achieve.

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Gan Eng Seng Dragon Scout Group Campfire - 2nd September 2006

On 2nd September 2006

Gan Eng Seng Dragon Scout Group celebrated her 84th year in style with a campfire titled "Unusual 2006". I was proud to be back with the rest of my fellow old boy scouts, enjoying the days when we were a Dragon Scout and enjoying campfires. Although campfires nowadays are very different from my time (different era), some things just doesn't change.

Our Dragon Chapter Committee chairman, Thye San, was invited to be the Guest of Honour to declare the campfire open. It was a great honour for him and for everybody in Dragon Chapter.

This campfire became an very important and significant day in the history of Dragon Scout Group and Dragon Chapter, (since the day the Chapter was founded in our short history to date). We were inuagrated in the presence of our Dragon Scout Group and our fellow brother scouts, sister guides and cub scouts. We went to the stage and Say Chionh led the Dragon Chapter in our "uniforms" to recite the Scout Promise.

With the simple formality and ceremony over, the campfire began and the fun started! There were performances, games, lots of singing and dancing. It wasn't the same as during my time ..... but it's a different era ..... (I Confess : It make me feel a bit old)

There were quite a bunch of us old boy scouts, ranging from different age bands. After the campfire, we stayed back for a great catch up and enjoying the snacks and drinks. Great plans are presently being planned for our 85th Anniversary in 2007 !

Some sneak previews for my fellow Dragon Old Boys ..... :
(1) 85th Anniversary Grand Campfire
(2) 85th Anniversary Dinner
(3) 85 years "history textbook" with CD for history learning
(4) Others TBA

I would be involved in certain areas of this massive project (photography + other TBA) and it would be a great honour to be involved in such a unique and exclusive Scouting event that not many Scout Groups in Singapore can stand up and testify their pride, greatness and history! I was involved in the 70th Anniversary in 1993 as a Patrol Leader during my year in Secondary 4.

To all the Dragon Scout Old Boys of all generations, keep a look out in the forums for the updates and my blog for updates and pictures of our ongoing Dragon Chapter activities and upcoming massive 2007 calender of events !

Onward Dragon Scouts !

24th August 2006 - Viktor's Birthday Gathering @ Geylang

24th August 2006 - Vik's Birthday

It was another birthday gathering on that day for my fellow faithful Liverpool supporter and a great colleague as well.

This gathering was organised by Ah Lye, assisted by myself. We settled to meet at Geylang Dou Jiang You Tiao and Beef Kuay Teow near Lorong 8. Ah Lye did a great job in organising this gathering, kudos to him !

I went there later than most of the rest, when I got there, they were having desserts and drinks. Our mascot cutie Dr. Xavier was also with us and he does attracts a lot of attention whenever he was around us, sharing the limelight with Vik, whom doesn't mind at all.

Lots of fun, chatting and photo taking. Sean, Ray, Ah Lye and myself were happily snapping away photos on my EOS 300D. We also got a creamy coffee chocalate cake? for Vik. Hope you folks enjoy the photos posted here ......
